Welcome to the Chesterfield Youth Football Association (CFA).
In Chesterfield we’re proud of our program and excited about the opportunity to coach your son in the fundamentals of football. At this young age we stress the Fundamentals, keeping the focus on Learning while having Fun.
From ball handling to blocking, running, catching and tackling our players learn the basics through repetitive exercises and instructive games. Each team plays a 7-8 game season which culminates in a playoff for the top 3 teams from each division.
My coaching goals have as much to do with your son's character as they do with his learning the game. We stress the development of our players toward becoming young men.
COURAGE
We teach our players to overcome fear. That doesn't mean they won't be afraid, but that it is our goal to help them overcome their emotions.
(For the parents - at this age football is not dangerous. The speed and size just don't combine to more than scrapes and bruises. As in most other sports, like soccer and baseball for example, at this age there are normally no injuries that result in a boy missing the next week's game.)
CONFIDENCE
The twin sister of Courage is Confidence. We want each player to be confident on the field. A lot of that confidence will come from "knowing what to do". At this age that means REPETITION. It's your job to insure that he makes it to every practice and it's our job to insure he becomes confident in what he can do on the field.
CHARACTER
We want each of our players to exhibit personal character on and off the field. Now is the time to start teaching those behaviors and often kids will accept that teaching more readily from someone other than Mom and Dad. We’ll take advantage of the opportunity to instill in your son a “Never Give Up” Attitude and proper Respect for Authority.
SPORTSMANSHIP
We teach our players to take Victory and Defeat in the same way. "Heads Up" regardless of the game's outcome.
FUN
If it's not fun, it's work and no one needs more work! We push the guys hard, but make sure that they enjoy it and look forward to future seasons.
SO GET READY to strap up those helmets and tie up those cleats…We’re looking forward to seeing you on the field in August!
